Collaborating with the architect, contractor, and owner, Covey Pardee provided comprehensive design services for this steeply sloping new home site in the southern hills of Ashland. Designed with Asian influences, the courtyard is a secluded, private entry that doubles as a sunny breakfast terrace. The source pool, featuring a stone sculpture previously purchased by the owner, is the headwaters for the watercourse that flows through the courtyard, under the glass viewing floor in the house, and into the lower pond. Design responsibilities included initial site analysis, house siting, grading, drainage, retaining walls, courtyards, planting, landscape lighting, and observation during construction.
